Chapter Six: 1212 Memory Lane

“I’m worried,” Challenger blurted out finally, after stirring his cup of tea for probably the thousandth time, much to Harry’s annoyance.

Conan watched good-naturedly from the other side of the table, his eyes lit up like fireworks that kids hold in their hands to celebrate holidays.

“Not I,” Conan responded. “This is nothing like the war we had back some years ago with the mummy things.”

“I’ll agree with that,” Harry nodded. “That challenged every one of us to stay alive even, let alone to solve the mystery behind it all.”

“Bah!” Challenger spat out. “There was no mystery. The damned army fiddled with an extra planetary vehicle and tried to bury their bad work in the museum. Had they used more scientific precaution…”

He let the rest remain unspoken. They all felt the same. They k new the military to be necessary in times of war, but more often than not, they were also responsible for starting them because of their eagerness to fight. And those that led them and were intent on making a name for themselves.

Fortunately, the Good Queen Mary of Scots was not a warmonger like the last Soldier King had been. He had driven the Britains to the very edge of disaster and only her courageous move against him had saved the world from a conflagration it could never have survived, let alone the Britains remain whole.

“Let’s not go into a negative rant about our soldiers,” Harry spoke up finally, after another long lapse of silence. “They do the best they can with what they know. It is not they who should be held responsible, but the blathering idiots who command them into battle…like the Soldier King did, nearly ruining our country!”

Challenger smiled. “Still, they do precious little to stop wars from happening. Even at this very moment our Queen is secretly preparing for another war with the Germanes.”

Conan, ever the more profound thinker of the three commented, “I disagree with that statement, Challenger, it’s the government that administers them. Were people more careful in whom they voted to be in such positions…”

“There would be no wars?” Challenger questioned Conan. “Fat chance of that, my good friend. The rich and powerful make their fortunes and expand them during wartime. Just look how much the Rothschild’s have prospered during our wars with Germany and America. They funded both of them. And both sides!”

Conan nodded his head. “I suppose so. You’re probably right, Challenger, but I still think if people did more thinking about whom represented them, perhaps we could avoid some of this.”

Harry sighed. “Which brings us back to what this situation is.”

“Which is what?” Challenger demanded. “Some kind of supernatural creature from a lamp that’s really a gypsy type gone bad?”

Conan laughed. “When you put it that way, Challenger, it does all sound rather…”

“Ridiculous!” Harry cried out.

They all turned to look at him.

“See, even Harry agrees with me,” Challenger stated proudly.

Harry stood up and began rubbing his hands together as if he were washing them with water.
